Registration Steps

Obtain a Certificate of Single Status from the embassy or consulate (for foreigners).

Translate documents into Thai by a certified translation company.
3.
Have the original and translated documents verified at the Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
4.
Register the marriage at a local district office with at least two witnesses.
The overall process of marriage registration takes about 5-6 days, some of which may need to be conducted in Bangkok. Once the marriage registration is complete and legally recognized in Thailand, it is recommended to have it translated into English for international use.

Applying for a Thai Marriage Visa (Marriage Visa) requires careful preparation and attention to each step to avoid future problems. The basic guidelines for applying for a marriage visa are as follows:
- Prepare documents confirming marital status, such as a marriage certificate and wedding photos.
- Prepare documents confirming the relationship, such as joint photos, financial transfers between each other.
- Prepare financial evidence and expenses of the applicant and spouse.
- Verify all documents to ensure completeness and correctness before submission.
- Strictly follow the procedures and processes of the immigration office.
Proper preparation will help ensure the smooth processing of the marriage visa application.
Conditions
- Applicants must be legally married to a Thai national with a visa valid for at least 14 days. An additional 30 days can be requested for document preparation for the visa application (if applying within Thailand).
- Applicants applying from their home country should prepare documents as specified by the Thai embassy or consulate. The applicant will receive a 90-day visa from their home country (if applying from abroad).
- Once you have obtained the visa, you must travel to Thailand to apply for the visa extension.
- Applicants must prepare documents, especially financial documents for the spouse visa extension application.
- For applications from abroad, the visa must have at least 30 days remaining to apply for an additional 12-month extension.
- Note: Foreigners who receive a Visa on Arrival or a Tourist Visa can apply for a spouse visa after registering their marriage with a Thai national in Thailand, provided their visa has at least 21 days remaining. This is necessary to apply for a change in the visa stamp.
Warnings for Holders of Marriage Visas in Thailand:
- For Marriage Visas, foreign nationals must report to the nearest immigration office every 90 days using form TM.47.
- If traveling outside Thailand, the 90-day reporting period will start anew upon re-entry into Thailand.
Documents Required for Visa Application
- Original passport and a copy of every page signed.
- Four 2-inch photos.
- A copy of the wife’s house registration, signed to certify correctness.
- A copy of the wife’s ID card, signed to certify correctness.
- A copy of the marriage certificate and a copy of the marriage record, both signed to certify correctness.
- A copy of each child’s birth certificate (if any).
- A copy of each child’s house registration (if any).
- Original bank book and a copy of the first page, signed to certify correctness.
- Bank deposit certification letter (updated to the date of application).
- Wedding and family photographs, 10 copies: Color copies on A4 paper, 2 photos per sheet (no black and white).
The processing time for a Marriage Visa for foreigners is approximately 3-4 weeks. Documents must be submitted 3 weeks before the current visa expires.
Bank Account
- Your bank account must have the required funds for at least 3 months before you can renew your visa.
- In the event of a divorce, the Marriage Visa will be automatically canceled, and the foreign national must leave Thailand within 24 hours.
